Ramanuj Dasgupta has completed  his journey of more than fifty years  in the field of music. Creative  enthusiasts  look forward to  creations from him. In his music room progress and  benefits of technology has developed a friendship with music. His basket has a unique gift which has combined breathing and meditation to assist peace of mind through music.

Ramanuj Dasgupta started his engagement with music enthusiasts in 1969. He remains indebted to his audience and continues to navigate new paths for their pleasure.  The sitar maestro, Pandit Ravi Shankar   appreciated his talent when they both collaborated in a project on the occasion of  300 years of  the  “City of Kolkata.”  Memory recalls association  with R.D.Burman, the legendary music composer and songs for films like, Jhankar, Apon amar apon.

Music lessons he  started to  give at the age of  nineteen (19) when his aptitude was fined tuned by his teachers. Capability as a music composer became manifest at the age of fifteen(15). Gopal Dasgupta and Sudhin Dasgupta , both tutored him to appreciate fine nuances of music.

                                                                                                                                                                                                    

Dedication to music has led to rewards; In 2018 he received Bharat Sanskriti  Snamman Award from Bharat Sanskriti Utsav. 2015 needs special mention  for  'Nazrul Award' from the esteemed Nazrul Academy ,Churulia (birth place of Kazi Nazrul Islam) and an award from " UTAL HAOYA" a dignified musical organisation of Kolkata.

It has been an honour and pleasure to direct and  work  with Mumbai based singers like Md. Rafi saab, Anup Jalota, Anuradha Paudwal, Suresh Wadkar , Kavita Krishnamurthy and the renowned Pandit Jasraj ji . In Kolkata he has directed proficient singers like Smt. Sandhya Mukherjee , Smt Haimanti Shukla , Smt. Runa Laila. A treasure for the memory to be associated Swapan Chakraborty, Sreedhar Pharhke, Raghunath Seth to name few music directors.

 

All India Radio(AIR) in 1969, he joined . First HMV record on Rabindra Sangeet appeared in 1972. Learning is a continuous process, keen perfectionist made him take systematic training from  a very early age. Groomed gradually to be a versatile musician in  Classical , Bhajan , Ghazal and preferred songs of Bengalees;  Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, Shyama Sangeet  and Adhunik songs as well. Lessons  from different famous & senior teachers  like Sri Manindra Chakroborty famous lyricist Sri Gopal Dasgupta, great and renowned Music Director Sri Sudhin Dasgupta and Classical maestro Pandit Amiya Ranjan Banerjee  helped to develop flawless expertise.

 

'Pride of Region’ award from Vivekananda Sports Academy of Delhi in the year 2013 he received. The Mayor of New Jersey in the year 2000 in recognition of his talent conferred  " The CITATION ".

 

 HMV, the music company  gave him the opportunity and others followed ; Music India , Super cassettes , HMV Music India,  B.S.P., Cozmic Harmony and R.P. Techvision.  Records, recording and appreciation of music audience and creators  kept him engaged in different genres Nazrul geeti, Raagpradhan, modern and contemporary songs.

I started my engagement with music enthusiasts in 1969. I choose to continue my creative pursuit with the support of  (new)technology.  I remain indebted  to my audience whose encouragement  make me navigate new paths.  Memory reminds me of the privilege I had to be associated with Pandit Ravi Shankar, the sitar maestro who appreciated my talent. We both collaborated in a project on the occasion of  300 years of  the  “City of Kolkata.”  I sang for films like Jhankar, Apon amar apon, Surer Akashe  where I worked with R.D.Burman and Swapan Chakraborty, legendary music composer(s).

Music lessons I began to impart  at the age of  nineteen (19). My aptitude was fined tuned by my teachers. Curiosity for composition made me try my hand as

 a music composer  when I was fifteen(15). I fondly remember  Gopal Dasgupta and Sudhin Dasgupta , both tutored me to appreciate fine nuances of music.

Versatility ranges from Classical , Bhajan , Ghazal, extends to Bengal's own culture, like Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, Shyam Sangeet to Adhunik songs as well. At various point of time , I took lessons from famous & senior teachers  like Sri Manindra Chakroborty, famous lyricist and composer Sri Gopal Dasgupta, great and renowned  music director Sri Sudhin Dasgupta and Classical maestro Pandit Amiya Ranjan Banerjee  .
